Description

Fordite Ford Rouge Plant Paint Money Clip measuring 1″ wide by 2″ long. Gift Box included.

This over spray is even more amazing because it is from the Ford Rouge Plant located in Dearborn, Michigan. This paint is from the 1950’s & 1960’s. We have a very limited supply of this.

Every piece of Fordite, also known as Detroit Agate, is a unique object of beauty. Like agate Fordite is cut and polished to reveal the swirling patterns of colors inside. Unlike agate, Fordite comes not from the ground but from the retired paint shops of the automotive industry.

There used to be a great deal of overspray the way cars were painted. As a result, the paint built up layer by layer and was baked at high temps between coats.

As the story goes, paint shop workers would sometimes knock chunks of the paint buildup loose and take them home as souvenirs. The colorful buildup was beautiful in its raw form and turned out to be breathtaking once cut and polished, perfect for use in jewelry.

No one knows how much Fordite was saved. Today, there is very little overspray and it is much harder to find.

All we know for sure is it looks great in our sterling silver and nickel free jewelry.
